About Alexandre Horta e Silva

Photography has accompanied Alexandre Horta e Silva since childhood, when he was introduced to this universe by his father, Francisco José Horta e Silva, and later by his great-uncle João Sioborg Jr., who guided him not only in technique, but also in the appreciation of art, literature, and philosophy. Since then, his eye has been shaped by a constellation of cultural references that transcend the field of image.

Both physician and psychoanalyst, Alexandre developed a singular way of observing the world: detail, the instant, and the unspoken become protagonists. His photography does not aim to illustrate or describe, but to transfigure.

His works capture what might otherwise pass unnoticed, but which, under his gaze, gain aesthetic and sensory potency. What he offers the viewer is a moment of astonishment—a subtle surprise that suspends time and opens new perceptual possibilities.

From a technical standpoint, his approach is guided by two fundamental principles: privileging natural light and minimizing digital editing. This choice preserves the authenticity and intensity of his images, rendering them more tactile, more intimate, and more real—without ever relinquishing their poetic depth.

Since his first solo exhibition at Palazzo Pfanner in Lucca (2018), his works have been exhibited in Brazil, Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, Spain, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Monaco, and the United States. He has participated in relevant events such as Paris Art Shopping (Carrousel du Louvre), the Parallel of the Venice Biennale, and Artexpo New York.

In recent years, Alexandre has been exploring the human body with greater proximity, investigating surfaces, forms, and presences that reveal subtle nuances and provoke, simultaneously, estrangement and fascination. This represents a coherent continuation of his photographic language and a deepening of his artistic research.

Today, his photographs are part of private collections and institutional spaces. In all of them, he remains faithful to his essence: transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary, provoking wonder, and inviting the viewer to see — and feel — differently.
